Supposedly Ghandi was a jerk?

I have no words to explain my astonishment....a Christian just argued with me about the Bible and I said that according to the Bible Ghandi is going to hell regardless of how great a person he was but jerks who accept Jesus get to go to heaven. So I told him this judgment was flawed. He then told me that Ghandi was angry with Christians and that he was actually a jerk. How can someone actually say that and hold such high regard for themselves?
